Arts Minister Andrea Michaels MP said: “It’s fantastic to have SAGE back at the South Australian Film Corporation for 2025! South Australia’s games sector is an incredibly exciting industry that is growing rapidly. Our state is home to brilliant creative minds and the games industry presents significant opportunities for South Australia. The event brings together video game designers, studios and fans to connect and collaborate.”
SAFC Head of Production and Development Leanne Saunders said: “After the huge success of this year’s SAGE: SA Game Exhibition which saw more than 2,000 people flock to the SAFC’s Adelaide Studios, the SAFC is thrilled to be presenting SAGE for a third exciting year in 2025, with a record number of SA studios exhibiting their video games across a packed two-day program. The SA games sector is brimming with inventive and skilled developers and artists, and SAGE offers a unique chance to play and experience their exciting original video games and bold creative concepts first-hand.
“We would like to thank all our generous partners and sponsors who have made the SAGE 2025 program possible. South Australia’s thriving games sector truly comes together at SAGE, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to see and experience the best South Australia’s games sector has to offer.”
The video games industry is a huge growth sector worldwide; research by the Interactive Games and Entertainment Association (IGEA) shows Australians spent more than $4 billion on games in 2023, with 91 percent of Australian households owning a video game device. The Australian game development sector generates more than $345 million a year and employs more than 2,450 Australians – and growing – with 12% of employees based in SA.
Along with the SA Video Game Development Rebate, SAGE is another innovative way the SAFC supports South Australian video game development and production and games businesses as part of the agency’s commitment to supporting and championing all segments of South Australia’s screen industry, cementing the state’s reputation as a leading location for game development.
